Why the fuck can't I get rid of these double-bounces? I woke up to find 7,000 in my Gmail trash--and I can only delete a hundred at a time. I've tried all sorts of shit on the server, and none of it's working.

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

[edit]Let me restate that. I woke up to find 7,000 conversations of them in my Gmail trash. A conversation can have as many as 61 messages in it.[/edit]

A bounce message is an e-mail telling you that your message couldn't be delivered. A double bounce is an e-mail telling the system administrator that a bounce message couldn't be delivered. They often happen if an e-mail is To one non-existent user, From another.

The problem is that one mailbox--lroyal(at)architechies.com--gets all e-mail addressed to laurenroyal.com. Since there's only one valid address there, lauren(at)laurenroyal.com, I bounce everything else. But spams often have forged From headers, so a lot of those bounces are themselves bounced. And a lot of spammers will try to guess addresses by putting every common first name at the beginning of a domain name--abe(at)laurenroyal.com, al(at)laurenroyal.com, allison(at)laurenroyal.com, etc.--which means that when spams come, they come in batches of several hundred.

You don't use a catchall account?

There wouldn't be enough disk space in the world for a catch-all account on my server.
