'Cause, you know, I'd much rather breathe as many particulates as humanly possible. They're ever so much fun.

After the shit I've gone through so far trying to get my car checked, I'd probably not mind taking a few deep breaths in a carbon-monoxide–filled garage.

Valid point. I always forget that it's too much to expect efficiency from low level government employees.

You know, until I visit the DMV.

There's nothing wrong with smog-check laws. Just California smog-check laws. There's just no need for them to be as stringent as they are. Connecticut, for example, has pretty sane emmissions standards, but even a car that passes there with flying colors can have a damn hard time conforming to California's. (Which, unfortunately, is a requirement for getting a permit to drive on a military base in the state. >.<)

Cars destined for California are actually built differently at the factory than cars for other states. That meanss that California cars are later to market, more expensive and often less efficient. Plus oil companies are required to put additives in gasoline...

California's an expensive place to be a driver, really. It's amazing that so many people do it anyway, and a testament to the fact that there's really no other way to live here.
