A little piece of me died today.  But he just went too far...

An abbreviation of MT:tC, which is an abbreviation of Megatokyo: the Clans, a message-board RPG I spent a year or so playing (mid-2003 to mid-2004).

If you look back through the archives, I contributed Configure to Parrot just after 0.0.1 was released (0.0.1 was released on 10 September 2001; I did my thing, Simon applied it around 4am 11 September, and I got woken up around 7 because of the attacks). I've been contributing to it for a long time. So imagine that I posted a message to perl6-internals saying that I no longer believed in the project; even if that were true, it would hurt to say it.

Einado was in the server room, as always, and as was her routine Kit stopped by (once she was done with the obligatory teasing, since Einado had the 'Anti-static measures: ON, DO NOT ENTER' sign up that morning).

The topic for this day: how everyone in the city could apparently speak English
and Japanese. Kit was a magical researcher, it was her job to ask these kinds of questions.

"It's the Parrot effect," Einado replied matter-of-factly.

"The Parrot effect?"

Einado shrugged. "... the name makes sense to me..."

Across the fourth wall, a hacker sneezed and continued work on an interpreter.

You know, am I the only one of the opinion that the cynics should jsut shut up and let threads run their course? Stop trying to control the forums, if it's so bad then people won't go for it anyway, but what if the newer generation *wants* that sort of thing?

No, but in this case, agreement doesn't imply correctness.

> Stop trying to control the forums

This isn't directed just at you, but at the tC community in general.

Stop pretending that you know what does and doesn't belong in SD. You don't live there anymore, you don't post there anymore, and even if you lurk, you can't really know the culture if you're not an everyday part of it. From and SD perspective, Luci's thread was a bunch of crazy words with some attempt at justification by adding a picture that can't have taken more than a couple minutes in Photoshop. It had no SD merit.

Please, let us be who we are.

There are those, though (and you know this as well as I) that were once in tC but have something of a knowledge of how SD "culture" tends to be.

It's something of a fine line to walk on, but I've got small feet. ^.^;

I never said I know what does or doesn't belong, but it *is* a very small group of people who're always shooting down *any* threads like that. What if most the forum *wants* to play? How do you know if you don't give them the chance?

And nothing would kill the whole idea faster than just letting the new generation decide for themselves, and then they decide against it.

Would you protest if $politician dug up George Washington's corpse and took him on the campaign trail?

This isn't about controlling the forums; it's about the respect I have for tC. Just as every American respects Washington (and the dead in general) too much to tolerate someone using his body for political purposes, I respect tC too much to tolerate an offensive and stupid thread in its name, at least where I'm going to see it.

Where "where [you're] going to see it" does not mean the RP forums, at this point. And in this little commentary here, I think that the only current RP players are me (and even then that's stretching it) and Luci. For bad or for good, there's only so much anyone can say about how things are in tC or in SD without being familiar with how things are currently.

I'm not disagreeing with you or anything, so don't put on your asbestos underwear for this. Hopefully what I said made sense...

The entire point was to go too far. Because I'm too often accused of doing things half-assed. Also, it's an instillment of how everything great started. True enough, it was obtuse, and disgusting artwise, but I was attempting to convey a message of not caring, damn the consequences, I feel like having fun.

However you were completely right. tC is Dead. It has no place in time anymore. Even when it starts anew, it will naught but turn sour.

And for what little it is worth, I appologise.
