Nov. 27th, 2006

The schedule of my visiting uncle and his family forced us to do the family Hanukkah several weeks early.  I got a bunch of stuff, the best of which was:
  • The His Dark Materials triology, which certain Potter fandom types have recommended (you know who you are).  I've read about ten pages of The Golden Compass and I'm already wondering how I'll get my draft essay written tomorrow.
  • The Color of Magic, the first Discworld book.  Yay.
  • Two computer books: The Mythical Man-Month and Don't Make Me Think (on web usability).
  • The Animatrix, which I've somehow never seen.
My dad and sister also got several CDs that are going on my iPod Real Soon Now.

I also got one Rather Expensive Item that I'm considering selling/returning; there's nothing actually wrong with it, but I could put the money towards a new laptop, which I'd really like to get.

Mom has made it clear that most of our gifts from her this year will either be small like books or albums, or things for the house like bedspreads and bathroom sets.  But I think I'm gonna really enjoy my books.

If you haven't seen the Animatrix by now, I suggest you just keep going on like that. It's the only thing that is even more overrated than the movies... if that's even possible.

Meh. The Animatrix was not as bad as Izuko makes it out to be (there are a couple of the shorts I found intriguing... and this is coming from me. You know how much I disliked the Matrix); overall, it was decent enough that I own it... but not good enough for me to watch more than twice.

Heh. I may have to do Christmas late or early this year, depending on work. *sighs* Ah well.

Eh. I liked the Animatrix shorts way more than the 3 movies.
