*chuckles* Nope, they have special arrangements for North American students--a few people come over to New York and Vancouver to interview. I've been assigned to NY on November 13.

Wow.

I am in awe of your smarts.

*is stuck feeling all isolated in a state Uni that no one knows about*

Hey, I considered going to your school even though I'd be out of state, so it's not that bad, and people do know about it ;p

*insert friendly Oxbridge rivalry comments and actions here* ^^

Well I can't speak for Oxford except to say that they give interview results before the end of the year. Judging from Oxbridge interview lessons though, I can say what they'll probably be looking for:

> How you think, not how much you know
> How motivated you are
> What non-academic qualities/aspects you have (i.e. whether you'll enrich their non-academic societies)

One particular myth about Cambridge is: "they only pick the best of the cleverest" which is absolutely incorrect. Likely it's also true for Oxford - most people who apply (and who get an interview) can pass the course (it doesn't matter to them whether you scrape past or pass with flying colours) so they pick you on slightly different qualities:

- whether you're well suited to the Oxbridge method of teaching (regular tuitions in very small groups). In fact, your interview ought to be like a trial Supervision/Tuition. A good Supervision session ought to have questions flying both ways.
- whether you'll be a good addition to College/Uni life (getting along with a multitude of people and contributing to non-academic activities).

Incidentally, which Oxford college is interviewing you? I can email an Oxford friend and see what extra information she can share. IM me (on the rare occasions I'm on AIM nowadays) if you want more Oxbridge talk ^^

And Congrats :)

I'm on an open application--they choose the college. That's basically because I have no idea which colleges are the best anyway. :^)

As far as the tuition thing, I took independent study for the last two years of high school, and was extremely successful. (Bs to Ds before, nearly straight As after.) I emphasized that in my personal statement, so they know all about it.

And I'd be quite grateful if you'd contact your Oxford friends. I have little idea what I'm doing here...
